Connect OpenRouter.

OpenRouter is the easiest way to go unlimited — one API key unlocks hundreds of text and image models. Connect it once and ScoutRival writes unlimited posts, blogs, and images, billed by OpenRouter at cost. About three minutes.

What you'll unlock

An API key is a long secret password that lets ScoutRival generate content through your own AI account. With OpenRouter, a single key reaches hundreds of models — for both writing and images — so you only manage one key and one balance.

// WHY BRING YOUR OWN KEY

Your ScoutRival plan includes a monthly AI allowance. Connecting your own key makes text, blog, and image generation unlimited — you pay OpenRouter directly (usually cents per post), and ScoutRival never meters it.

Before you start: an email to sign up, a card to add a few dollars of credit, and ~3 minutes.

Get your OpenRouter API key

1

Create a free account

Go to openrouter.ai and sign up (Google sign-in works). It's free to create an account.

2

Add a little credit

Open openrouter.ai/credits and add credit (you can start with $5 — it lasts a long way). OpenRouter is pre-paid: no surprise bills.

3

Create a key

Go to openrouter.ai/keysCreate Key. Give it a name like “ScoutRival” and click create.

4

Copy it now

Copy the key the moment it appears — OpenRouter only shows it once. It looks like this:

openrouter api keysk-or-v1-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Connect it in ScoutRival

5

AI Models → OpenRouter → Connect

In ScoutRival, open AI Models from the sidebar, find the OpenRouter card (marked Recommended), and click Connect.

6

Paste the key

Paste your sk-or-… key into the field. Make sure there are no extra spaces. ScoutRival checks it and shows ✓ Verified when it's valid.

7

Pick your default models, then Save

Choose a default Text model (the ★ marks our pick) and a default Image model, then Save. That's it — generation is now unlimited.

// DONE

OpenRouter now powers your text, blogs, and images. You can switch the default model any time from the same screen — your one balance covers them all.

Troubleshooting

  • “Verification failed” / 401? The key was mistyped or has a stray space. Re-copy the whole sk-or-… string, or create a fresh key at openrouter.ai/keys.
  • 402 “Insufficient credits”? Your OpenRouter balance is empty. Add credit at openrouter.ai/credits (from $5).
  • “No endpoints found matching your data policy”? A privacy setting is blocking the model. Open openrouter.ai/settings/privacy, allow the options you're comfortable with, or pick a different model.
  • Images don't generate? You picked a text-only model in the Image slot. Choose a model from the Image dropdown (those are image-capable).
  • Worked, then stopped? A free :free model hit its rate cap. Switch your default to a paid model — you already have credit, and it's still cents per post.
