Products & Services — the field that decides everything.

Every content idea ScoutRival generates has to map back to something you actually sell. Leave this empty and the output goes generic — fill it in properly and everything downstream sharpens.

If you only fix one thing in your brand profile, fix this one. Your services list is the spine every piece of AI output hangs off — and it's the field people skip.

Why this field matters more than the rest

ScoutRival won't write content that doesn't sell anything. Every content idea it generates has to map back to a real service you offer — if the engine produces an idea it can't tie to one of your services, it throws the idea away rather than shipping you generic thought-leadership.

That constraint is the whole reason your posts sound like a business with something to sell instead of a LinkedIn motivational account. But it depends entirely on ScoutRival knowing what you actually sell.

Your services also feed:

  • Keyword research — each service is a seed for the search demand we mine around your market
  • Competitive gaps — we can only tell you what you're missing if we know what you offer
  • Blog and social angles — the topic comes from your market, but the hook comes from your service
  • AI share-of-voice — the questions we ask ChatGPT and Perplexity are built from your service categories

Filling it in

1

Open Brand → Profile

Scroll to the Products & Services card. Some rows may already be there — we extract what we can from your homepage during onboarding.

2

Add a row per thing you sell

Each row has a name (up to 120 characters) and a description (up to 400). You can have up to 30 services.

3

Save

Hit Save & Continue. The change is live immediately for anything you generate from here on.

What a good entry looks like

Write the name the way a customer would say it, not the way your website's nav says it. “Solutions” is not a service. “Emergency boiler repair” is.

good// specific, in the customer's words, one job each
Emergency boiler repair
24/7 callout for no-heat and no-hot-water faults. Most jobs fixed same visit.

Annual boiler service
Landlord and homeowner safety checks, with a certificate.

Boiler installation
Combi and system boiler swaps, including old-unit removal.
weak// too abstract to generate anything specific from
Solutions
We deliver best-in-class outcomes for our clients.

Consulting
  Various services.
// RULE OF THUMB

If a stranger couldn't tell what you'd invoice them for, the AI can't either. Three sharp services beat twelve vague ones.

What happens if you leave it empty

Two things, and neither is subtle:

  • Your content goes generic. With nothing to map ideas to, the writer falls back on your industry alone — so you get posts that could belong to any competitor.
  • Your Brand Engine stops topping itself up. The routine that keeps your market intelligence fresh deliberately refuses to run on a brand with no services, because it would only produce noise. You'll see a nudge on your Daily Brief asking you to fill this in — that's why.

If your briefs feel bland, this is the first place to look.

The “Detected” chip

Rows we pulled off your website during onboarding carry a small Detected sparkle. It means nobody has confirmed them yet.

They're a starting point, not the truth — homepages are marketing copy, and marketing copy is vague. Edit them into the words your customers actually use, and the chip goes away.

After you change it

New services take effect immediately for anything generated from that moment on. To push them through your existing market intelligence — keywords, gaps, angles — open your Daily Brief and use Rebuild engine on the Brand Engine panel. It takes a couple of minutes, runs in the background, and costs nothing.
